2021 season
17 Sep 2021 by Luke Ramsey
I am really sorry to announce that Rio Rancho Public Schools informed us today that we will not be allowed to use the high school wrestling room this year due to ongoing covid restrictions. We are all extremely disappointed with this decision and really frustrated that it took so long to get an answer.
We are not the only program facing these realities, so Coach Santos, Coach Adam and I will be reaching out to other teams to see if we can come up with a creative way to work together and perhaps find a venue for practices. New Mexico Junior Wrestling is moving forward with their season, but we anticipate that hosting tournaments will be a challenge for them as well.
We will update this group if and when other options become available.
If your child is in the 7th or 8th grade and attends middle school in Rio Rancho they can participate in the middle school program. This may be the best option for those in that category. You could still get their USA Wrestling cards and have the opportunity to compete at both middle school and NMJW events.
This season was supposed to be my last as head coach. We were going to use this year to bring a new coach up to speed and turn everything over at the end of the season. I don’t know what that looks like now, but I will do my very best to ensure a smooth transition to whoever takes over. I will be around, hopefully helping at both middle school and high school so I am confident that they will pick up right where we left off once things return to normal. It has been an honor to coach this team and I am thankful for the kids and their families that worked so hard and put so much effort into this program. It is inspiring to watch the kids develop as athletes, teammates and friends. Thank you for entrusting me with such an important part of your lives.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Coach Ramsey
